Peter D’Antonio was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941. He received his B.S. degree from St. John’s University in 1963 and his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, in 1967. Dr. D’Antonio has specialized in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including spectroscopy, x-ray and electron diffraction, electron microscopy, software development, and architectural acoustics. In 1996, Dr. D’Antonio retired after 29 years of research in diffraction physics at the Naval Research Lab, Washington, DC. During his scientific career, Dr. D’Antonio published widely and was a member of the internationally renowned Laboratory for the Structure of Matter, headed by Nobel Laureate Dr. Jerome Karle. As a musician and recording engineer, Dr. D’Antonio maintained a separate concurrent career in the music industry. In 1974, he developed a widely-used design for modern recording studios at Underground Sound, Largo, Maryland, utilizing a temporal and spatial reflection-free zone and reflection phase grating diffusors. Dr. D’Antonio Founded RPG Diffusor Systems, Inc., in 1983 to develop and test novel surfaces to expand the acoustical palette. After more than three decades of successful innovation and operation, he sold RPG in 2017. The company was relocated and restructured as RPG Acoustical Systems, LLC. Dr. D’Antonio is currently Director of Research at the new company and Director of the new Acoustical Research Center. To return to his initial musical interest in critical listening room design, he joined the staff of REDI Acoustics, LLC, as Director of Research.
He pioneered the sound diffusion industry and has significantly expanded the acoustical palette by creating and implementing a wide range of novel number-theoretic, fractal, and optimized diffusing and absorbing surfaces, for which he holds many trademarks and patents. He has lectured extensively, published numerous scientific articles in peer review technical journals, acoustical and architectural magazines and is the co-author of the reference textbook Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers: Theory, Design and Application, 3rdEdition published by CRC Press (August 2016). He has also contributed several chapters to the Master Handbook of Acoustics, 6thEdition published by McGraw Hill Professional 2015 and a book that reflects the life, work, and legacy of one of the greatest acousticians of the 20th century entitled Acoustics, Information, and Communication: Memorial Volume in Honor of Manfred R. He served as Chairman of the AES Subcommittee on Acoustics Working Group SC-04-02, which published AES-4id-2001 for diffusion coefficient standardization; is a member of the ISO/TC 43/SC 2/WG25 Working Group, which published ISO standard 17497-1:2004 for scattering coefficient standardization and ISO 17497-2 for diffusion coefficient standardization. Dr. D’Antonio has also served as adjunct professor of acoustics at the Cleveland Institute of Music, since 1991. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the Audio Engineering Society and a 2012 Inductee into the music industry’s TECnology Hall of Fame. Currently, Dr. D’Antonio is also President/Founder of the Chesapeake Acoustic Research Institute, LLC (CARI), founded in 2007, and Director of Research at RPG Acoustical Systems, LLC and REDI Acoustics, LLC.
Rinaldi Petrolli was born in 1994 in Porto Alegre, a city in the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. From a young age, Rinaldi nurtured a love for music and a curiosity about the intricacies of musical instruments. This interest led him to a two-year luthier apprenticeship at the age of fifteen. His passion for acoustics later found a formal channel when he earned a B.S. degree in Acoustic Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Maria in 2019.
While at university, Rinaldi delved into various specialized areas of acoustics, ranging from room and environmental acoustics to digital signal processing. He also sharpened his programming skills in MATLAB and Python, employing them for data measurement and analysis in his academic projects. During this time, he collaborated on PyTTa (Python in Technical Acoustics), an open-source library for acoustic measurement and analysis. His undergraduate research successfully developed a low-cost method for modeling tube amplifiers using machine learning and Long Short-Term Memory neural networks, enabling real-time emulation via a Python interface.
In 2018, Rinaldi joined the Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG), first as an intern and later as a full-time acoustical engineer. His work there spanned various domains of acoustical analysis and computational simulations. This experience led him to meet Peter D’Antonio, and together with PK Pandey and John Storyk, they formed REDI Acoustics, LLC. At REDI, Rinaldi continues to focus on research and development in acoustics, particularly on creating and refining computational tools for optimizing room acoustic parameters.
Artur Zorzo was born in 1994 in Brasília, Brazil. In 2012, in an effort to make better recordings of his band, he completed a professional audio course and instantly fell in love with acoustics after a lecture on the subject. In 2018, he received a B.S in Acoustic Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Maria.
He published several papers while in university. Most of them in the areas of real-time audio signal processing and acoustic measurements. For his undergraduate thesis, he researched and developed an active noise control system for headphones using real-time adaptive digital filters. In 2018, for his internship, he worked on the geometrical and acoustical optimization of ambisonic microphones.
From 2019 to the beginning of 2021 he worked at Devialet as a signal processing R&D engineer in the development of signal processing algorithms for active noise-canceling earbuds. A patent was filed based on his works on the Ear Active Matching (EAM) algorithm. The EAM system automatically tunes the signal of the music to the shape of an individual’s inner ear. In parallel to that, he worked on the acoustic implementation of MEMS microphones on the products.
Thiago was born in 1996 in Araçatuba, a small city in the countryside of São Paulo state, Brazil. In 2014 he started attending an Acoustic Engineering course at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, and he is going to receive his B.S. degree by October 2020. Since he was 10 years old, Thiago started attending drums classes and playing at church, which he does until today. His love for music and his facilities with math calculations led him to join both things and attend the acoustic engineering course.
While at university, he studied subjects such as room acoustics, digital signal processing, electroacoustics, environmental acoustics, psychoacoustics, building acoustics, acoustic measurements, computer programming, and many more. His undergraduate thesis is about wind turbines, where he built a simple prototype and measured it, based on the IEC 61400-11 Standard. Also, he made measurements using the beamforming technic, to find noise points in the prototype.
In January 2020 Thiago started his internship at WSDG and in June he joined the REDI Acoustics team, helping with NIRO simulations and reports, as well as helping the WSDG Highland office team with advanced models and Sabine and Eyring calculations.
João Vitor born in 1993 in Frederico Westphalen, Brazil. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as a live mixing engineer at venues with local bands. This experience led him to the study of sound and acoustics, which led to a B.S. in Acoustic Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) in 2019.
João worked mainly with signal processing, audio acquisition, and playback systems during university. He was also part of Praxis Peoples Education, a group that provided preparatory courses to working-class and low-income students who wished to enter university.
In 2018, João and a few colleagues began the development of PyTTa (Python in Technical Acoustics) with the vision of providing a solid and easy-to-use Python framework for acoustic measurements and analysis. João became the head developer and main contributor. This development brought a great knowledge of programming skills, which became João's passion.
From 2019 to 2021, João worked as a substitute professor at UFSM for the Acoustical Engineering course, where he was the leading professor in Fundamentals of Acoustics, Electroacoustics, and Theory on Live Sound Systems. He also had a role as a co-professor in Psychoacoustics and Building Acoustics. After this intense work in academia, João became a developer, having worked at Dynamox and Vertesis, developing cloud and desktop software, until 2023, when João gladly joined the REDI Acoustics team.
John Storyk, registered architect and acoustician, is a founding partner with his wife Beth Walters of WSDG (Walters-Storyk Design Group). He has provided design and construction supervision services for the professional audio and video recording community since the 1969 design of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
John Storyk received his architectural studies from Princeton and Columbia Universities. As an independent designer, engineer and principal designer of WSDG he has been responsible for over 3500 world-class audio/video production facilities, including studios, radio stations, video suites, entertainment clubs and theaters. His work includes private studios for Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Ace Frehley, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Dayne’s producer Rick Wake; Greenday; C & C Music’s Robert Clavicles; Oven Studios (Alicia Keys); Roc the Mic (J-Z), Harry Connick Jr., J Cole, Owl City and others. Professional audio video installation partners include Sony, Spotify, Margarita Mix (LA), Crtieria - Record Plant (Miami), Soundshop (Nashville); Crawford Post, Atlanta; Talking House (San Francisco); screening rooms for NYC’s Planet Hollywood and Technicolor; conference facilities for Mercury (Polygram), EMI, CEMEX, Sumitoma; large scale educational and performance facilities for Full Sail/Platinum Post (Orlando), Ex’Pression Center for New Media (San Francisco), Berklee College of Music and Jazz at Lincoln Center / XM Radio (New York city).
He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Acoustical Society of America, Audio Engineering Society (Fellow Award recipient) and a frequent contributor to AES and NAMM convention papers and professional industry periodicals. John is a frequent lecturer at schools throughout the nation and has established courses in acoustics at Full Sail, Ex’pression Center for the Media Arts and Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he has been a long time adjunct professor.
Music, scuba diving and baseball remain his lifetime passions, although the C-19 era has allowed baking to be added to this list.

Born in India, and moving to Amherst at the age of three, PK has been a lifelong (more or less) resident of Massachusetts.
